I’m pretty sure there were no black men in the Japanese Army back then either.
There’s a theory Spike Lee only brought it up to promote and get free publicity for his new movie about a detachment of buffalo soldiers. “Miracle at St. Anna,” about an all-black division that fought the Germans in Italy during World War II.
Is anyone going to mention to Spike Lee he should put some white guys in the 92nd Buffalo Division? Probably not.
Spike Lee was upset at Clint Eastwood for making “Bird”, the movie bio of Charlie Parker. Because Clint was white and making a movie about a black man. Clint’s response - “I was the only guy who made it, that’s why.”
Spike Lee is also upset that Clint’s next move set during the depression before the city’s ethnic make-up was changed, which was mostly white at the time. “What are you going to do, you gonna tell a f****in’ story about that?” he growls. “Make it look like a commercial for an equal opportunity player? I’m not in that game. I’m playing it the way I read it historically, and that’s the way it is. When I do a picture and it’s 90% black, like Bird, I use 90% black people.”
You’re either historically accurate or you’re not. It’s a sad fact the way America was in its past, but it’s still a fact. Spike seems to be the one stirring things up to get publicity for his movie any way he can. In either case Spike Lee and Clint Eastwood should just get over it.
Spike should just shut his mouth, his washed up making movies no one cares about. Most of his movies where awful.
They really should just get over it.
